Bunbury Village Day – what’s it all about?
Occasionally the BVD team are asked what is Bunbury Village Day all about and how does it work?…. are you a commercial organisation?…. what do you do with your profits?…. Well here are the answers to those questions and a few more besides!
In 1969 the ancient custom of “The Wakes” was reborn as Bunbury Village Day, so this year we are celebrating our 56th year!
The main focus of the day is to provide a great day for people of all ages in Bunbury and the surrounding villages.
The event is organised by a core team of volunteers (this year there are 12 of us) who meet throughout the year to come up with ideas and put them in place. On the weekend of the event, we are joined by many additional volunteers who help with all the practicalities such as putting marquees up (and down!), staffing the bar and BBQ, looking after the gate etc.

Sometimes after an event we find that we have a small profit (although it is not our aim to make one) and in past years we have used this to help fund all manner of things for the community including:
- providing tools for volunteers at Sadlers Wells Community Woodland
- maintaining the Village website
- buying a new bench for the “triangle” in front of the co-op
- helping fund the public access defibrillator at the Nags Head and replacement pads and batteries
- paying for a coach trip for the “Friday at Tilly’s Club”
- replacing the community noticeboard on the Village Hall
- painting the Pavilion at Bunbury Jubilee Playing Fields
So, we hope that has answered all your burning questions and that we are successful in delivering our central goal – to provide a great day out for the whole community!

We are delighted to announce that Bunbury Village Day will take place on Saturday 14 June 2025 and this year we’re turning up the volume with a celebration of music and a day of Summer Sounds!

We are inviting a host of musical contributors from near and far to ensure there’s something for everyone.
Expect to see the very energetic and colourful Karama Samba, Wombat & Muttley, with their infectious pirate ditties and shenanigans, Bunbury’s very own Just Sing choir, the ever-popular Chester Brass Band, the legendary Lost Boys – Bunbury’s original rockers and firm favourites, The Easy Peelers, with many more acts to be announced!
We are also planning ways for EVERYONE to find their musical groove by taking part in workshops making musical instruments as well as encouraging everyone on the Jubilee Play Fields to sing, play and dance the day away!
It’s now time to start planning your musical themed costumes. Whether you’re a Rock Star, Disco Diva, Pop Icon, Rock and Roll Legend, Punk Rocker, Classical Composer or even a Jukebox, Cassette Tape or a Musical Instrument, we encourage you to get creative!
And don’t forget there will be prizes for the best dressed!

As always, Bunbury Village Day will also feature all the beloved traditions that make this event so special.
Look forward to meeting Bunbury Royalty, our Rose Queen, Rose King, and their attendants, enjoying a well-stocked bar, a delicious BBQ, a variety of stalls, the classic WI Café, thrilling fairground rides, and so much more!
Summer Sounds promises to be a day like no other. It’s a chance to celebrate our vibrant community, enjoy fantastic live music, and make unforgettable memories with friends and family.
So, get ready to dance, play and sing – this is a day you won’t want to miss!

Are you our new Queen or King of the BBQ?
As many of you will know one of the key features of Bunbury Village Day is the BBQ! Each year this is run by volunteers who shop, prep, cook, serve and yes…. tidy up.
The menu is simple – burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, onions (if we’re feeling fancy) and importantly low prices, so that we can provide hot and tasty food to suit all budgets.
This year we find ourselves in the tricky position of not having a key person to head up the BBQ.
We have all the professional BBQ equipment required, we also have a detailed written plan of what is required to lead the BBQ team (with no detail omitted by its business tycoon author!), what we are missing is that special someone to take the lead.
If you think that could be YOU then drop us a line at bunburyvillageday@gmail.com or via our social media pages so we can have a chat about the task in more detail and see if you’d like to give it a go this year and be this year’s Bunbury BBQ Queen or King.
Please like and share on and offline, to help our search!
